Let me talk about Artificial Intelligence. PART 1

I want to propose a new way to define inteligence.

Asimov, without traying, sugested we should invent a new name for it to avoid preconcepts. It is a interesting view, because we insist in give it human feeling then we bow down.
Something I read in a forun: "IA is not inteligent, inteligent is the man who created it".

Let me follow another aproach.

Human inteligence is a combination of two components. It is a symbiosis between basic animal inteligence and reason, both of them easy to define.

We use to believe that what define us as humans is the abstraction, problem solving capability, and several wonders of perception like guessing an entire context based on scarce data.
It is not.  Smallest animal brains can do it too.

I define as intelligence a very basic one. the one that every animal with a learning capable brain (remembering - adapting response) has.  So AI falls easily there.
The differences, just a matter of magnitude.

The other component, the racionality and its purest form, the logic.
Animals have a kind of abstraction.  What we have is the ability to name these abstractions, recall them and manipulate these memories. That's purely human.

And we created computers in our image. We couldnt give them inteligence -yet- but we gave them logic.

With these only two components everything fits. Easy to categorice: Logic machines, intelligent machines. Pure instinct animals, animal intelligence, abstraction, selfawareness, social, reason, animals that invent machines that surpasses them.
Just categories.

You just have to believe animals are intelligent, and superior animals can do abstractions. Hard to define, but I thing we left the swamp of AI definition behind.


So let me speculate on abstraction then.
